Actor and producer, Aasif Mandvi is success story from Hollywood film industry

Aasif Mandvi was born on March 5, 1966, in Bombay, Maharashtra, India as Aasif Mandviwala. He is an actor and producer, known for Million Dollar Arm (2014), Evil (2019), and The Proposal (2009). He has been married to Shaifali Puri since August 26, 2017

Actor, comic, and former Daily Show correspondent Aasif Mandvi was living in New York when two planes struck the World Trade Center in 2001. He spoke with Rolling Stone about witnessing post-9/11 discrimination against the Muslim community and how that created the career opportunity of a lifetime.

Mandvi remembers watching Islamophobia take hold in the weeks following the attacks. “The first thing I noticed was all the cab drivers in New York with American flags on the side of their cabs, in their window,” he says. “They were clearly terrified of the backlash. And then the stories coming out of people being harassed and beaten and sometimes even killed.”

“I feel like there’s a moment in the history of this country, and American Muslims do need to speak out. It’s a privilege in a way to be an American Muslim speaking in whatever way I can at this time in history when it’s so crucial.”

Mandvi doesn’t claim to be the most devout of Muslims but says the religion will always define a part of him. He addresses many of these things in his new book, “No Land’s Man,”. He hopes that his comedic spin on religious issues will help foster a better understanding of the true roots of Islam.
