Australia win Lahore Test, clinch series against Pakistan

LAHORE: Australia beat Pakistan by 115 runs on day 5 of 3rd & final test match played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The tourists also clinched 3 matches series, on Friday.

Turning point of the match was controversial catch of Azhar Ali on the bowling of Nathan Lyon at the score of 17.

The right-handed batter looked strong during his stay at the crease; however, he was teased by a full deliver from Lyon, as the batter bent down for a sweep. However, he failed to time the ball as the ball seemingly grazed past the inside edge of bat, hit the pad, and Steve Smith took a simple catch at first slip.

The on-field umpire had initially given Azhar not out and Australia captain Pat Cummins opted for a review. While the ultra edge showed some minor murmurs as the ball came next to the bat, many fans believed that it wasn’t conclusive. Regardless, the third umpire adjudged Azhar out, leaving the batter livid as he left the field.

Azhar was the second wicket to fall on Day 2 after Abdullah Shafique fell victim to Cameron Green in the 31st over of the game.

Fawad Alam and inform wicket keeper batter Muhammad Rizwan was removed by Australia captain on two bowls.

Needing 351 runs to win the match or batting through 121 overs for a draw – both feats never achieved in Lahore before – Pakistan reached 190 for 5 at tea on the final day of the series, which remains locked at 0-0 after two Tests.

Australia inched closer to victory as Steve Smith took catch of Babar Azam in first slip on the bowling of Nathan Lyon when he was playing 55.

Sajid Khan and Hassan Ali got out on 21 and 13 respectively. Shaheen Shah Afridi got out at the boundary line when trying to hit a big shot. Nathan Lyon got 5 wickets of Pakistani batters in the second inning.
