Nida stars as Pakistan register first Women’s World Cup victory

Date:

AUCKLAND: Nida Dar produced a clinical performance with the ball as Pakistan Women registered their first victory in the ICC Women’s World Cup victory after four-straight defeats.

The Women-in-Green defeated West Indies by eight wickets on Monday at Hamilton in match 20.

Chasing 90-run target, Muneeba Ali and Sidra Ameen provided a 22-run start. Sidra walked back to the dugout after scoring just eight.

However, Muneeba scored a solid 37 to bring Pakistan close to the target.

Captain Bismah Maroof and Omaima Sohail remained unbeaten on 20 and 22 respectively, as Pakistan chased the target in 18.5 overs.

Afy Fletcher and Shakera Selman found a wicket each for the losing side.

This was Pakistan’s first victory in the tournament since 2009.

The match was reduced to 20 overs each as rain delayed the start of the game. Nida bowled an excellent spell where she claimed figures of four for 10 in her four-over spell to restrict West Indies to 89/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

Deandra Dottin and captain Stafanie Taylor made a noticeable contribution to the side. Dottin scored 27, while Taylor made 18.
