Raisi says natural gas will form future of world energy

DOHA: Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi said in the GECF Summit on Tuesday that natural gas is a green, safe fuel with rich resources which will shape the future of the world’s energy.

The Sixth Summit of Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) is being held in Doha, Qatar and President Raisi has attended the summit, heading a high-profile delegation.

In his speech at the summit, President Raisi said that the countries being represented in the forum have a good unity for the future, despite existing disagreements.

The summit is aimed at supporting sovereignty of the member states over exploration of natural gas and strengthening its role in global energy portfolio and the demand for this energy carrier, Raisi noted.

The President said that the GECF member states, as gas-rich and gas exporting countries, should convey their message to the world clearly and use gas to improve the economy hit by the coronavirus pandemic.

Natural gas is an important factor in the growing electrification in the decades to come and gas producers must meet the growing demand, Raisi underlined.

Earlier, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani says that he has held talks with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on ways to develop bilateral ties.

Emir of Qatar made the remarks through a Twitter post on Tuesday after his meeting with the Iranian President.

Qatari Emir also wrote about Doha-Tehran historical relations based on good neighbourhoods.

Referring to his talks with President Raisi, the Emir said important international and regional developments and also ways to preserve regional stability and security were discussed.

Iran’s President departed for Doha on Monday (February 21) at the invitation of Emir of Qatar.
