One billion or 15pc of the world population experienced some form of disability, mostly in developing countries, says World Bank. WHO refers to disability as dealing with individuals with a health condition (e.g., cerebral palsy, down syndrome, and depression), personal and environmental factors (e.g., negative attitudes, inaccessible transportation, public buildings, and limited social supports.)
Pakistan is the 5th most populated country in the world, it has 207 million people with 106.3 million males and 101.3 females, the data is collected from the official census, which was conducted in the year 2017. It has been established that the disabled populace percentage has been decreased with a comparison of the 1998 census.
In 1998, it was found that 2pc of the population is disabled, however, in accordance with the last census, disability has been decreased in Pakistan by 0.48pc.
Further, in compliance with the decision of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the data of disabled persons has been reorganized and republished in December 2021, by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). The new data was rebuilt with the support of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). According to the newly available data, 0.17pc of the population in Pakistan suffers various disabilities.
