Ukrainian firms ready to invest in Afghanistan’s railways


KABUL: Sayed Idris Mir, Acting Deputy Minister of Public Works, Mullah Bakht-u-Rehman Sharafat, Deputy Minister of Finance and Engineer Abdul Bari Siddiqui, Deputy Technical Director of Afghanistan Railways, met with Mr. Shulik and his accompanying technical team from private Ukrainian railway companies.

The Deputy Minister of Finance and Administration of the Ministry of Public Works welcomed the Ukrainian delegation and discussed on the importance and activities of the Afghanistan Railways in the border of Hairatan, Aqina and Turghandi.

Deputy of Finance, added that favourable and safe conditions have been provided for investment and development of cooperation in the field of railway activities at the national value, and comprehensive investment and cooperation between the private and public sectors in Ukraine in reconstruction and development of infrastructure, and standardization of activities. We welcome the railway so that we can provide standard and safe services in the important borders of our country.

Expressing satisfaction with his visit to Afghanistan, the Ukrainian delegation assured that they would try to jointly visit the railway lines and stations, check the condition of the stations, facilities and equipment and review their comments and suggestions in order to solve the problems. And present current challenges and development activities.

In this meeting, both sides discussed in detail the transfer of commercial property from Hairatan border, training and capacity building of professional engineers of the Railway Administration, maintenance of the Hairatan-Mazar-e-Sharif route, construction of workshops, how to supply locomotives (rail cars) and further cooperation in various sector of railways.

In the end of the meeting Mr. Shulik said, for a starting point we are ready to invest in the Afghan railway sector and as a starting point we want to cooperate with Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan” He added.
