MANAMA: Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz landed in Bahrain, to normalize the ties between the two countries, on Wednesday.
“The defence minister, Lieutenant General Abdullah bin Hassan al-Nuaimi, received Mr Benny Gantz, the minister of defence of the State of Israel, upon his arrival at Bahrain International Airport,” the Bahraini Defence Ministry said.
“The aircraft carrying the delegation is the first IAF [Israeli Air Force] plane to land in Bahrain,” the defence ministry said in a statement.
“Throughout the visit, the minister is expected to conduct meetings with high-ranking officials in the Bahraini defence establishment and with the Kingdom’s leadership,” he added.
Gantz took an Israeli air force transport jet to Bahrain. It was the first visit by an Israeli defence chief to the Gulf country, as well as the first time an Israeli military plane landed there.
Taking on Twitter minister said, “I just landed in Manama, Bahrain for an official visit to the Kingdom. I was welcomed by my Bahraini counterpart, Minister of Defence Affairs H.E. LTG. Abdullah Bin Hassan Al Nuaimi in a remarkable ceremony. Honored to be here and looking forward to meeting the Kingdom’s leaders.”
Israeli Defence Ministry announced Gantz’s travel only after he arrived in Manama on Wednesday, saying he will sign a security cooperation pact with Bahrain, which, together with the UAE, normalized relations with Israel in 2020.
