KARACHI: Splendid batsman Fakhar Zaman sparkled with the bat again as Lahore qalandars beat former champion Peshawar Zalmi in the ninth match of the seventh edition of PSL 2022.
Despite sloppy fielding after left-handed batsman Fakhar Zaman scored 66 with the incredible hits of sixers and fours, Abdullah Shafique with 41 and veteran Mohammad Hafeez with 37 had pushed Qalandars to 199-4 while Lahore restricted Peshawar to 170-9 on Wednesday.
Lahore qalandars now have four points from three games and are second in the points table in the six-team event behind Multan Sultans, who have won all four of their matches and have eight points.
Lahore Qalandars skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi set the tone for his team by removing Zalmi opener Hazratullah Zazai for a duck off the third ball of the innings, after setting a target of 200 to win. The early wicket loss placed Zalmi on the back foot, while Qalandars’ frequent wickets prevented Peshawar from making a comeback.
On the contrary Peshawar Zalmi’s player, Kamran Akmal and Haidar Ali made 41 and 49 respectively, but their team was unable to catch up with the high required run-rate.
