KARACHI: Dream of coal mining in Thar came true as miners working on Coal Field block 1 of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project finally got coal from the mine on Monday.
The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Sino Reserve Company told the local media that they found the coal after digging 145 meter and in the first phase the annual coal production will be nine billion tons.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has also congratulated the people and said this was the second successful project according to the vision of his party’s late leader and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
Thar Coal Field block 1 alone has three billion tons of coal reserve, which is equal to five billion barrel oil reserves, he added.
Shah said the slogan of ‘Thar will change Pakistan’ was becoming true. He congratulated the Chinese company too.
