Dozens of people killed in Ghana explosion

GHANA: A truck carrying explosives of mining collided with the motorcycle left 17 people dead and 59 were injured while a tall building fell off.

Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said in a statement, 17 people were killed in explosion although 60 were injured, have been rescued immediately and are in hospitals and clinics also first aid medics were given to them on Thursday.

Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo said, “the military had joined the emergency rescue put efforts to help contain the situation and also country’s disaster management agency also work for the rapid relief to the residents.”

The large blast happened in Apiate, near the towns of Bogoso and Bawdie when motocycle went under the truck full of explosive mining.

Francis Abeiku Yankah, the coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) for Prestea Huni-Valley district, reported the complete devastation of the Apiate community.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service said, an emergency public notice has issued and announcing the incident as “a huge explosion”, also told citizens to move themselves to nearby area while recovery efforts are under process.

Residents beg for aid as a big plume of black smoke rises over devastated buildings and spread material, according to images shared by local media.
