LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar had removed 15 officials from their positions over Murree tragedy, in which 25 people were died as their cars were stuck in the snowstorm in the resort town. These include Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi, CPO, AC Murree and others.
CTO Rawalpindi, DSP Traffic, SE Highways Circle-2 Rawalpindi, XEN Highway Rawalpindi, XEN Highway Mechanical Rawalpindi, SDO Highway Mechanical Murree, Divisional Forest Officer Murree, District Emergency Officer Murree, In-charge Murree Rescue 1122 and Director PDMA Punjab have also been suspended and disciplinary action has been ordered against them, the Chief Minister said.
The tragedy that took place in Murree was extremely painful and saddened and transparent high-level inquiry headed by Punjab Home Additional Chief Secretary Zafar Nasarullah established to determine the cause and those who are responsible of Murree catastrophe, he added.
He said that orders were also issued for Murree assistant superintendent of police’s removal from his job, with his services being made available to the federal government, as well as his suspension and disciplinary action.
citing the report, “The officials concerned failed to fulfil their duties,” he said.
The chief minister said he had promised a “transparent inquiry” of the Murree incident and that action would be taken against those responsible for the tragedy.
“I have fulfilled my promised,” he added.
