JI can stage sit-ins their whole life, the 2001 LG law will not return: Sindh minister

KARACHI: PPP Karachi Division President and provincial information minister, Saeed Ghani has said, Jamaat-e Islami can stage sit-in their entire life in front of the provincial assembly but the 2001 Local Government lawt will not come back.

Addressing a press conference at the Sindh assembly building on Wednesday, he rejected the allegations made by opponent Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) as baseless. He also dismissed statements by the Pak Sarzameen Party Mustafa Kamal by saying, “Who are you?”

Sindh Local Bodies minister Nasir Shah, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Administrator Murtaza Wahab, and Karachi PPP office-bearer, Waqar Mehdi had earlier on Monday visited the JI sit-in and spoke to Karachi JI chief Hafiz Naeem ur-Rehman. The two sides had agreed to form a committee sort out the issues through dialogue. Saeed Ghani is a member of the committee from the government side.

Saeed Ghani told the press conference, “Unfortunately, yesterday MQM friends talked about ethnic divide, tried to create differences among people by misleading them.” He further said, “Kunwar Naveed Jameel is a senior politician… for his information, delimitations is a job of the election commission, so they are doing it. The provincial government can only provide numbers. Sindh government has recreated towns in Karachi by abolishing the District Municipal Corporations (DMCs) with the consultation of opposition parties.”

MQM Deputy Convener Kunwar Naveed Jameel, during a press conference on Tuesday, alleged Peoples Party-led Sindh government for making delimitations for upcoming local bodies elections on ethnic bases.

Ghani said, If he was asked, he would suggest to maintain DMCs as town to be created on 0.5 to 0.7 million population, we suggest towns with this ratio of population by over viewing districts population, but Local Bodies minister, Nasir Shah negotiated for creation of towns with the opposition.

According to 2001 LG law, delimitation on population bases, but govt also has right to made delimitations against the population, so even in 2001 all delimitation was are not equal, He added.

He claimed, when Mustafa Kamal become Mayor the population of urban and rural in Karachi is equal, but in 2013 Peoples Party increased the urban population from 10,000 to 50,000. According to new censes delimitation will have to changed. Union Committee of rural areas have become part of Urban population. Population of areas increased 10 times higher.

Criticizing the MQM, Ghani said, if MQM wins every thing is right, PPP made amendment so its wrong, MQM accept the division of Hyderabad, but creation of towns in Karachi is not acceptable. Any party has objections on delimitations so can go to court. MQM doesn’t find anything so objected the names of the town.

He asked Mustafa Kamal, who are you? Do don’t have a single member in the assembly, Jamat e Islami stage Sit In whole life in front of assembly, but 2001 LG act won’t come back. He also blamed victory of JI presentative because of Martial Law administrators and said now it won’t be happened.
