Taliban FM meets rebel leader in Iran

Date:

KABUL: Taliban’s foreign minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi meets Afghanistan’s national resistance front (NFR) Ahmad Massoud and the former governor of Herat province Ismail Khan in Tehran on Monday.

Foreign minister Amir Muttaqi said in a video, “Yes, we met with Ahmad Masoud & Ismail Khan as well as other Afghan people and we assured all of them that they can return to Afghanistan and live deprived of any worries”.

It’s home to all, and we do not create insecurity or other problems for anyone. Everyone can come freely and live,” He added.

Quoting the spokesperson of Iran foreign ministry, Irani media said that Afghan leaders had taken good decision in a meeting that held in Tehran. During the visit political, economic, Afghans refugees and transit issues were discussed between two sides, said Hafiz Zia Ahmad deputy spokesman for the foreign minister.

Earlier in the day, NRF denied the meeting and NRF spokesperson Sibghatullah Ahmadi informed an Afghan publication that no meeting between both the two groups had taken place. On contrary of that Taliban’s spokesperson Bilal Karimi had also denied the meeting.

In November 2021, National Resistance Front (NRF) said, more and more people were joining the organization to fight against the Taliban’s rule.

The Massoud-led National Resistance Front has repeatedly denounced the Taliban–calling it an “illegitimate government”— but does not appear to have made any physical attacks.
