Turkmenistan’s President wants to extinguished “Gateway to Hell”

Ashgabat :Turkmen President, Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov’s ordered to extinguish the flame of the door of hell or Darvaza gas crater.

Darvaza Gas crater is tourist attraction place, It is an internationally recognized as site.

According to the state channel, Turkmen President urged official to “find the solution to extinguished the fire” it concerns for the health of the people who live nearby the flaming crater.

He said, “It is also the great loss of business community. We are losing valuable natural resources for which, we could get significant profits and use them for improving the well-being of our people,”

The gateway of hell is located in Karakum desert, the crater is roughly measure 70 meters wide and 20 meters deep. It was created in 1971 during Soviet drilling operation to extract gas. A disaster happened when the ground beneath the drill rig collapsed. rig jumped into a natural gas cavern.

Methane gas leaked into the air, so the geologists decided to set the crater on fire. The geologists were estimating that the gas only burn for a few weeks, but it was not extinguished yet. It’s been fifty years now and crater still flaming.

Turkmenistan is the fourth-largest known reserve of natural gas in the world. Gas export cover the biggest part of country’s economy.
