Bulgarian Muslims embraces winter marriage tradition


RIBNOVO: Bulgarian Muslims have kept alive their tradition winter wedding ritual for hundreds of years. The wedding ritual was revived when Bulgarian Muslims converted to Islam under ottoman empire.

Mayor of Ribnovo, Mustafa Isa said, “the highlight of winter wedding is when bride is about to be taken to the groom’s house, she applied makeup on her face so that when she goes to the groom’s house she will never looks back”.

In Ribnovo, traditional marriages have long been held in this manner, but after the fall of communism they were restored winter tradition and began to thrive. Because our music, religious ceremonies, and the clothing that the inhabitants of Ribnovo were all forbidden during the communist era. This made it difficult for us to maintain our beliefs and customs but everything is going smoothly for the past 30 years, which is fantastic, he added
