DUBAI: The Media Regulatory Office of the UAE has announced ending of the cinema censorship in the Emirates, declaring that from onwards, movies with adult or explicit content could also be shown with classification declarations.
The Office announced that the original uncensored versions of international films would now be screened in cinemas. Classifications would be given to all movies as per international standards.
Unlike censors in various other Muslim-majority countries including Pakistan, nudity, homosexuality, sex, violence, or other such content in films would now not be censored out of movies screened in the UAE.
The Emirate has moved towards liberalization of its society, and revamped its laws in this direction. The UAE has also decided that starting 2022, the country will observe its weekly holidays on Saturdays and Sundays instead of Fridays and Saturdays.
